Holy Name Society
The Holy Name Society was originally formed by Pope Gregory X in 1274. Our
St. Peter's Holy Name Society has been in existence for over 90 years, having
been organized in 1912. Its primary objectives are to promote the honor and
glory of God and the spiritual life of its members. The St. Peter's Parish Holy
Name Society works to support and strengthen the parish in many ways. Among
its annual activities are a Communion Breakfast, Picnic, Golf Tournament,
Turkey Shoot, Sports Night, Religious Education Christmas Party and the Bazaar.
New members and new ideas are always welcome. Any Catholic man who is at least
18 years old is eligible to join. Ay men interested in joining are invited to
attend our meetings which are held at 6 pm on the second Sunday of each month
from September through June.
Sacred Heart Sodality
The Sacred Heart Sodality meets on the second Tuesday of each month and welcomes
new members at any of their meetings. The goals of the Sodality are to enhance
our religion, raise money for the Church, volunteer to serve the community and
to promote friendship within the Church. The Sodality holds several events
throughout the year at St. Peter's. They include:
- A Christmas Fair each November which raises money for the parish (see events page).
- A Christmas Party including a sit down dinner and entertainment for Sodality members is
held in December. Sodality members bring gifts which are donated to charity.
- A Communion Breakfast in May where members attend the 8 am Mass together before enjoying a speaker and breakfast.
- A Banquet held on the feast of The Sacred Heart in June. Members attend mass together at
6 pm then proceed to a restaurant where they enjoy a guest speaker before dinner.
Members of the Sodality can also be found serving the Church and the community by
volunteering at the St. Peter's Bazaar, helping with bingo at St. Joseph's Manor,
providing food baskets to the needy for Thanksgiving, donating to the Cheverus High
School Key Club as well as many other things.
Music Ministry
Karen Strange is St. Peter's Parish Music Director/Organist/Pianist. As the scriptures
say, "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord." Consider being a part of the excitement
and fellowship that our music ministry has to offer.
Youth Choir
Our Youth Choir meets Sunday mornings from 8:45 am to 9:15 am in the church, just
before Religious Education. The youth choir provides the music for the 10:30 Mass
on the 1st Sunday of each month and will also be providing the music for the 5:00
pm Christmas Eve Mass as well as the First Communion Mass in May. All children in
Religious Education or area parish schools are welcome to participate at any time.
Folk Choir
Louis Grassi is our folk guitarist and plays for the 5:00 pm Mass on the last Saturday
of each month. Anyone interested in singing is welcome to meet on that last Saturday
at 4:15 pm in the parish hall to rehearse the music before the Mass.
Adult Choir
Our adult choir meets every Thursday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 pm in the church. The
choir provides the music for the 10:30 Mass each Sunday with the exception at the
Children's Mass on the 1st Sunday of each month when the Youth choir provides the
music.
